L.A. or San Fran?

Which place would you plan to spend longer in if you were a tourist? San Fran may be prettier ? but i'm also concerned with how much their is to do in San Fran. There seems to be lots more in L.A. especially nearby (themeparks). Any tourists who have done both with any advice or opinions?
